In-Office Analgesia

To improve your experience during in-office procedures, Women First offers you the option of an inhalable analgesic to ease potential discomfort.

Nitronox is a gas mixture of 50% medical nitrous oxide and 50% medical oxygen that acts as an analgesic for pain relief (not an anesthetic, which would put you to sleep). You may be more familiar with its nontechnical name of “laughing gas,” known for helping reduce anxiety during dental procedures. At Women First, Nitronox is self-administered through a mask or mouthpiece during your procedure or treatment, so it can be inhaled as needed to help you relax and take the edge off of any discomfort.

Upon taking several deep breaths of Nitronox, you will begin to feel more relaxed as the gas triggers release of your body’s natural endorphins and dopamine. You should feel the effects within a minute or two, although some patients may take longer to experience the benefits. Once you stop inhaling the mixture, the effects will be completely out of your system within 5 to 10 minutes.

Nitrous oxide is a drug, so there may be risks combining its use with other drugs and medications. Your Women First provider will review considerations of using the Nitronox system with you prior to your procedure. Side effects are typically minimal and may include dizziness and nausea. However, simply stopping inhalation of Nitronox and breathing air should quickly reverse any negative effects.

Women First is committed to providing you the highest level of care in the comfort of our in-office surgical suite. Our in-office analgesia allows you to be in complete control right here—where you will be well-supported by compassionate, caring staff members.
