High Risk Obstetrics
High risk obstetrical care is provided by the physicians of Women First of Louisville. Examples of medical conditions considered “high risk” during pregnancy include the following:
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Preeclampsia (toxemia)
- Diabetes
- Kidney disease
- Gastrointestinal disease
- Severe asthma
- Blood clots in the legs or lungs
- Lupus
Other pregnancy conditions which may increase the risk of complications include:
- Abnormal blood test for genetic disorders
- Abnormal fetal ultrasound
- Twins
- Recurrent preterm labor and delivery
- Premature rupture of the membranes
- Recurrent pregnancy loss
- Fetal growth restriction (low birth weight)
- Prior stillbirth
Comprehensive obstetrical ultrasound (Level II ultrasound), amniocentesis and nuchal translucency screening are also conveniently provided in our office. A Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist is available to provide counseling, consultation, co-management and direct care for complicated pregnancies.
