Obstetrical Health Topics
The physicians of Women First of Louisville provide obstetrical services only at Baptist Hospital East, and our office is conveniently located adjacent to the hospital in the Baptist East Medical Pavilion. Eight doctors practice obstetrics. Seven doctors do both gynecology and obstetrics, and one is a high risk specialist who only practices obstetrics. Each physician typically works a once - weekly, 24-hour call shift during which time she is responsible for covering labor and delivery. For the first half of pregnancy, patients are usually seen by the same physician. After that, we encourage patients to schedule their remaining appointments with different OB physicians. While we realize that this may not always be possible or desired, our goal is to make sure that every patient has a well-established relationship with at least one doctor but has also met every OB physician. Whether you chose to rotate the physicians you see, only see one physician during your pregnancy, or schedule your appointments on the same day each visit, we strive to accommodate your preference. Obstetrical patients are usually seen every four weeks up to the 32-week visit. From 32 to 36 weeks, patients are scheduled for appointments every two weeks, with weekly appointments beginning at 35-36 weeks. Ultrasound screening is typically performed at 16-20 weeks, and gestational diabetes screening is performed at 28 weeks. There are many ways that you can have a positive impact on your health and that of your baby before, during and after your pregnancy, and we encourage you to read through the information provided here. |
