Diagnostic Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a procedure in the Women First office in which a small device called a hysteroscope is inserted through the cervix and into the uterus for diagnosis of problems in the uterus. This device has a tiny light and camera, which transmits images from your uterus onto a screen where your doctor can see them clearly. Hysteroscopy is often used to diagnose abnormal uterine bleeding or very heavy periods. It’s also used to locate a lost IUD. Because it’s an in-office procedure using no more than a local anesthetic injection and/or oral medication, you’ll go home shortly after the procedure and recover quickly, usually within 24 hours. You may experience some cramping or light bleeding for a few days following the procedure.
